CSIAM vice-president Gang Bao elected SIAM Fellow

The Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) announces Class of 2016 Fellows, including CSIAM vice-president Gang Bao (Zhejiang University).


Founded in 1951, SIAM is an international community of over 14,000 individual members. SIAM exists to ensure the strongest interactions between mathematics and other scientific and technological communities through membership activities, publication of journals and books, and conferences. SIAM recognizes distinguished work through Fellows Program. Thirty new Fellows are selected in 2016. CSIAM vice-president Gang Bao (Zhejiang University) is selected for significant and lasting contributions to inverse problems in wave phenomena and electromagnetics applied to optics. 


Gang Bao obtained his PhD in Applied Mathematics from Rice University in 1991, as a student of William W. Symes. From 1992 to 2014, he had worked in University of Minnesota, University of Florida, and Michigan State University (MSU). He is the founder of Michigan Center for Industrial and Applied Mathematics in MSU, and had been its director from 2006-2014. Currently Gang Bao is the dean of School of Mathematical Sciences, Zhejiang University. For more information, please refer to his homepage.
