On November 5, 2016, the second meeting of CSIAM 7th Executive Council is held in Shanghai. The presidents meeting of CSIAM 7th Executive Council was held on the evening of November 4, where some important matters were discussed in advance. The executive council's meeting also invites the chairs of CSIAM professional committees. A total of 49 scholars from all over China attend the meeting. CSIAM secretary-general Guiying Yan chairs the meeting.

The executive council's president Pingwen Zhang first gives a talk. He expresses his gratitude to CSIAM vice-president Xiaohua Xuan for his sponsor to this meeting. He points out, the executive council is in charge of the society's decision-making, and the society's development relies on everyone's effort. We need to learn the ICIAM mode to be fairly or quite like it in five to ten years, in order to step onto the world arena. According to the central government's instructions, the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) is going to strive for the reform and development of societies. At present, CSIAM is applying to be a group member of CAST. We need to develop the society according to the requirements of CAST, make all the regulations and enforce them within half a year, and try to complete all the 2016 work agenda at the New Year Meeting on January 14, 2017.

The executive council vote seven people the society's new vice-secretary-generals, who were nominated by the secretary-general Guiying Yan. The president Pingwen Zhang presents each of them a letter of appointment. Then, each of the 16 working committees introduces its regulations, rules and committee members. Well-prepared for the meeting, the executive council members discuss and give opinions in a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere.

Also determined at the meeting are the times and places of the executive council's third meeting in May 2017 as well as the 2017 annual meeting. There are also work arrangements about the society's trimonthly CSIAM News (hard copy), monthly CSIAM Newsletter (soft copy), CSIAM WeChat public account and CSIAM website. Finally, the president Pingwen Zhang makes a conclusion. He emphasizes again that the development of applied mathematics in China ranks first in Asia, and the applied mathematicians should continue making efforts and try to surpass the US and Europe. Currently CAST supports the society's development. We should seize the good opportunity to work hard, so as to provide a better platform for the scientists.
