This year, the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) publishes the awardees of the 7th National Outstanding Sci-Tech Workers. CSIAM secretary-general Guiying Yan is honored with this title.

Guiying Yan has been engaged in operations research and its applications for a long time. She has participated in over 10 national scientific programs, got one invention patent, published over 50 papers, educated over 20 postgraduates and post-doctors and received special government allowances of the State Council. In recent years, she has carried out interdisciplinary research of mathematics and life medicine, and made outstanding achievements.

Guiying Yan is an editorial board member of several journals. She used to be the chair of the Graph theory & Combinatorics, a working group under the Operations Research Society of China (ORSC), greatly promoting international exchange. Currently, Guiying Yan is the secretary-general of CSIAM, the executive council member of ORSC, and the chair of ORSC Science Popularization Committee. She took the initiative to promote the application of operations research in China, volunteering to help ORSC and Beijing Teenager Science and Technology Club to make joint efforts to build academic advisory center and scientific research base, organizing personnel to write materials to popularize operations research, and organizing dozens of science lectures and discussions on operations research in middle schools, universities and enterprises, all well-received in the soeciety. Guiying Yan has also been a judge of teenager sci-tech awards for several times, and joined in relevant teenager science clubs, making a lot of efforts in guiding the teenagers to learn science. Besides, as the vice-president of National Center for Mathematics and Interdisciplinary Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, she has made substantial contributions in the interdisciplinary research of mathematics and other fields, as well as academic exchange. Guiying Yan was also the chief organizer for the 8th International Congress on Industrial and Applied Mathematics (August 10-14, 2015, Beijing, China). Her team's work was highly appraised by the scholars from home and abroad.

The award National Outstanding Sci-Tech Worker is to encourage the sci-tech workers doing science research, development and promotion. The award is given every two years, and the number of awardees do not exceed 500. There are 494 awardees this year.
